Enlisted April 19, 1861
Separated at Muster In at Camp Yates in Springfield and returned to Elgin.

       From a questionair circulated on June 1, 1878 to the Old Settlers of Elgin
Military Service
       Was drummer for the Continental Company for 5 years until the breaking out of the War of the Union and was called on to call out the Company that Sabbath morning in the City of Elgin and went with them to Springfield and saw them sworn into the service by General Pope, being the first Company sworn in in the State and Company A of the 7th Reg. of Ills. Vol.
