Teamster Arthur "Uncle Arthur" Newsome

5th Minnesota Inf.

Born a slave on the Ned Newsome Plantation in North Carolina.   On the death of Ned Newsome his family was sold to an Arkansas Plantation and he to a plantation in Mississippi, from here he was able to escape to the Union lines.
