Pvt. Doder (Doc) Monroe

A Co.       29th United States Colored Troops
   29 year old farmer.
   Mustered In Oct. 10, 1864.
   Mustered Out Oct. 11, 1865 at New Orleans.

   Doc. Morrow, a well known colored citizen, aged about fourty-five years, died at his residence in this city on Wednesday evening.  He visited the Centennial a few weeks ago, arriving home on Monday, Nov. 6.  He did not feel very well, having contracted a cold, which caused inflamnation of the bowels, resulting in death.  Doc, came north in 1864, from one of the southern states: remained in this vicinity a short time, when he entered the army.  After the close of the war he returned to Elgin, and by strict attention to business and fair dealing, he aquired some little property.  For several years he has been engaged in draying, and was generaly liked by all who came in contact with him.  He was an upright member of the Second Baptist church, of which society he was treasurer.  The funeral will be held from the church to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, Elder Carey, of Chicago, officiating.  He leaves a wife and one chilc and many friends to mourn his death.

   The funeral services of the late Doc. Morrow, were held at the First Baptist church on Sunday afternoon last, Rev. L.M. Woodruff officiating.  A large number of citizens were present to pay the last sad tribute to the memory of one whom they esteemed while living.
