   ELGIN BATTERY.-Lieut. Short, of the Elgin Battery, arrived home last Monday on a short furlough.  He reports all the members of the Battery from this vicinity well, and in fine spirits.  They had a brush with the rebels on the 21st of November, and it is matter of pride to all the friends of the Battery, that officers and men alike acquitted themselves nobly.  The men all speak in the highest terms of the Captain, A.M. Wood.

   Member in good standing of the Elgin Temperance Union in 1864.
