   Mustered In Oct. 25, 1861 at Camp Lyon in Geneva, Ill's.
   Home of record listed as Dundee, Ill's.
   Issued .58 Rifled musket.

   Notice: Oct. 22, 1862 issue Elgins Weekly Gazette.
   The 7th and 52d-Both these regiments were in the fight at Corinth.  The 52d was badly cut up, not so bad however, as some of the others.  Lieut., Col. John S. Wilcox was in command and we learn that he conducted himself with great coolness and bravery.
   The 7th took a hand in when the bayonet charge was made upon the rebels after they had gained the inside of our breastworks.  We do not learn that any of Capt. lawyer's company from this town were wounded.

   Death Notice; Sept. 28, 1895 issue of Elgin's Every Saturday.
   John E. Shaw died suddenly of old age at his home on Jackson street, Sept. 20, aged 75 years.  He had lived in Elgin nearly a quarter of a century.  He was sergeant in the 52d regiment and his war record was one of which he was deservedly proud.  His wife and two sons, John D., of Elgin, and William W., of Chicago, survive.  The funeral was in charge of Veteran post.
