   Jennie Murray, aged about thirteen, daughter of James Murray, was drowned in the river near Jake Rice's ice house, yesterday afternoon.  She, in company with two of Mr. Rice's little daughters, was in the river bathing, and was discovered by Miss Rosa Rice who bade them come out of the water.  The Rice girls came out and Miss Rosa supposed Jennie was coming out and turned and left for home.  She had gone but a few steps when she heard a screaming and looking back saw the girl sinking.  She gave the alarm but before assistance came the child was drowned.  The body was recovered soon after.

   The funeral of Jennie Murray, who was drowned in the river on Friday evening last week, was held from the residence of her father, James Murray, on Saturday afternoon last.

   In this city, January 5, about 9 p.m., Mr. James Murray, aged about 49 years.  Mr. Murray was a soldier in the late war, and belonged to the 127th Ill's. Infantry.  He was up to the hour of his death a member of teh G.A.R. and the Elgin Hook & Ladder Co.  The funeral will be attended at the house tomorrow at half past 1, and from the Methodist church at 2 o'clock.  The fire department and the G.A.R. will take charge of the services.

ATTENTION, FIREMEN AND COMRADES.
   The members of the several fire companies of this city are hereby requested to meet at the courthouse, to-morrow afternoon, at 1 o'clock sharp, to arrange the order of marching and such other matters as seam necessary for attending the funeral of the late James Murray.
