   HOME AGAIN.-Lieu't Wm. Smith, of Co. "A," of the 36th Ill., is home on a furlough.  He has been sick for several days, and comes home to recruit.  He left the regiment some two weeks since, and brings no later information from our boys.

   Excerpt from Grandfather Was a Drummer Boy, diary of Charles Stiles.

   Aug. 13, 1862
      Lt. Smith arrived here last Sunday (Aug. 9).  He was absent at home for some time.  The company received him with three cheers and a tiger.  He brought me a letter from home.
   

       Note;
The 'Tiger' is a loud growel offered after the traditional three cheers by Illinois Troops.
