Fremont Rifles
   Mustered In for 3 months service at Camp Yates in Springfield, Ill's. April 25, 1861 as Lt.
   Home of record listed as Elgin, Ill's.
   Issued .69 US Altered Musket taken in the Geneva Raid.
   Mustered Out at Mound City, Ill's. July 25, 1861
   Mustered in for 3 years at Mound City, Ill. July 25, 1861 as Sgt.
   Promoted Capt. April 7, 1862 on the death of vice Capt. Ward KIA at Shiloh.
   Wounded by accident at Pittsburg Landing, Tenn., in the leg April 19, 1862

       Notice: July 9, 1862 issue Weekly Gazette.
   RETURNING.- Capt. Geo. F. Wheeler, of the 7th Ill., will return to his regiment next Tuesday, and will take letters or small packages to the boys in the 7th or 52nd, which is in the same brigade.  Any thing left at this Office will be thus forwarded.  We rejoice that this gallant young officer has so far recovered from his wound, as to return to his position.

Ordered to Stay at Home.
   Capt. Wheeler, whom we mentioned last week as ready to return to his Regiment, the 7th Ill., received orders on Monday to remain and recruit for his Regiment.  He was all ready to leave to Tuesday, but as a faithful soldier, prepared to obey orders at once.  The messages entrusted to him, were forwarded by Mr. Long and others who left yesterday at 1 P.M.

       Note;
   Discharged due to wounds received at the location of the battle of Shiloh on Dec. 31, 1862.   The would was inflicted on April 19, 1862 while 'plinking' with his pistol along with a number of officers of the 52d Ill. who were camped nearby.
