   Dec. 24, 1863
I visited the boys belonging to the Elgin Battery and saw Albert Ward, Tom Daniel, Skeek and several others.  There has been considerable excitment today about Veteran Bol.  Nearly all of the 22nd INdiana reinlited.  Our Regt. don't go in very heavy.  We like to finish a job before commencing another.  Here we are on Chirstmas Eve, 40 miles from nowhere and nothing to do but think of those who are far away.  Whew!  What a "Merr6y Christmas" we will have.  "There's a good time coming boys, a good time coming."

   Mustered Out July 18, 1865.
