Three Years Service
Lyon Color Guard
   Enlisted as a Private.
   Home of record listed as St. Charles, Ill's.
   Re-enlisted as a Veteran Jan. 2. 1864 and paid a $300 Veterans Bounty, then sent home on 30 days Veteran's Furlough.
   Transferred to B Co. when the regiment was consolidated as a Cpl.
Co. B       58th Ill. Vol. Inf.t
   Absent sick at Muster Out of Regiment.

   Joined Elgin GAR Veteran's Post #49 Feb. 2, 1886.

        Obit: Nov. 5, 1892 issue Elgin's Every Saturday.
   William R. Wylie died Nov. 1 at his home on Washburn Street, aged 79 years.  He was born in Scotland, but had lived here many years.  He was a member of the G.A.R.  The funeral was held at the Free Methodist church.

Per family lore; William was not captured at Shiloh as he was assigned to a work detail that morning moving cannon from the landing up to the top of the bluffs.  During this he injured his back.
There is also an entry for the Elgin City Cemetery for a William Wylie who served in the 37th Wisc. Inf.
